About Carnival Monday
Carnival in the Netherlands is also called "Vastenavond" or "Vastelaovend". It is celebrated in catholic regions, mainly the southern provinces Noord Brabant and Limburg. Traditions are changed from town to town, some common characteristics of Dutch Carnival include a parade, a fake prince plus cortège, the boerenbruiloft and the haring happen on Ash Wednesday. The island’s largest and most important cultural event, Curacao Carnival! Carnival is a mixture of a street party, theater, art, culture, history, cuisine, and folklore. This involves a public celebration or parade combining some elements of a circus, mask and public street party. Carnival! Curacao season begins early in January with the Tumba Festival and ends the February brings the festival to a climatic ending. It ends with the burning of King Momo at midnight. For the three days of the carnival, the city changes its name to "Oeteldonk," which means "Frog Hill." The grand finale is on Tuesday, which is called Last Lap Jump-Up.
