| About Martin of Tours |
| The Saint Martin of Tours was one of the most famous and recognizable Roman Catholic saints. He was a soldier in the Roman army. He intended to become a Christian from an early age and was enrolled among the catechumens. Martin shared his cloak with a freezing beggar and received a vision of Christ which moved him to renounce military life and become a monk. His life was recorded by a contemporary, Sulpicius Severus, who attributed many miracles to Martin. He died on 8 November at Candes and was buried at Tours on 11 November. Many traditions of European and Latin American folklore developed also around him. The Catholic Church celebrates his feast day on November 11.
