About Armistice Day |
The Armistice Day is also known as Remembrance Day. It is the symbolic end of the World War I in 1918. This day commemorated the end of the hostilities for the Great World War I. Armistice Day was observed by the Allies as a way of remembering those who died, especially soldiers with 'no known grave'. It is observed the "eleventh hour of the eleventh day of the eleventh month". While this official date to mark the end of the war reflects the cease fire on the Western Front, hostilities continued in other regions, especially across the former Russian Empire and in parts of the old Ottoman Empire. After the end of World War II in 1945, the Australian and British governments changed the name to Armistice Day as an appropriate title for a day which would commemorate all war dead. |
