| The Independence Day, it is a national holiday of Benin. In 1872 the Benin was transformed into a French colony. In 1893 the France gained complete dominion over it. The Benin was so many years under French rule for a long period of time. It was established in the 15th century. The French, the Dutch and the Portuguese were the early settlers in the region. The French West Africa assimilated into the territory in 1904. In 1958, Benin acquired the status of an autonomous republic but at the same time remained a part of the French Community till it acquired its independence on 1st August, 1960. In this time the Benin known as the Republic Country. So August 1st, the Benin celebrated their country Independence Day. In this day the Benin people hoisting the national flag of the country which replaced the flag of French domination. |
