| The Traditional Day is known as Vadun Day. Vodun means “spirit”. Spirits may change from region to region. This festival celebrated on January 10th of every year in Benin. Today the people of Benin celebrate the ancient religion of their ancestors. Vodun is a religion of West Africa. Variants of Vodun spread to the Americas through Haiti and the West Indies during the slave trade of the 17th and 18th centuries. The Vodun religious practices are despite the Christianization of Haiti and the Caribbean by the Roman Catholic Church in the early 19th century. The Vodun is one of the oldest religions in the world. |
