Bulgaria proclaimed its independence on September 22nd after getting liberation from the Ottoman Empire. In 1908 it got back its complete independence as an independent kingdom and was declared as an autonomous principality. King Ferdinand- promulgated a manifesto proclaiming to all the Bulgarians free from the Ottoman rule and crowned himself the king of the independent country on September 22nd. Veliko Tarnovo was the previous capital of Bulgaria where the Independence has been announced in 1908. By the Parliamentary decision on September 10, 1998 The Independence Day is celebrated as an official holiday.
