| About Garifuna Day |
| The Garifuna Day is celebrated on November 19th of each year in Belize. It is a public and Bank holiday of the Belize. 200 years ago that our ancestors (African slaves and Carib Indians) landed on the shores of Belize. They came to Belize when they were driven away from other islands near Central America. On Thursday, November 19th, Garifuna Settlement Day, the reenactment of the Garinagu settlement will take place by the riverside. The Garinagu suffered overwhelming obstacles in the process of settling in Belize and had to fight for their rights as a people. Today, they share the culture that we call the Belizean culture. Taking part in this celebration makes me very happy. Belizeans all over are proud to celebrate with the Garinagu. |
