| About Soldier's Day |
| The Dia do Soldado is also known as Soldier’s Day in Brazil. It is observed on August 25th of each year. The Soldier’s Day is especially honors a Brazilian military hero, Luís Alves de Lima e Silva, the duke of Caxias. Today marks the Birthday of Caxias. The Brazilian Army has fought in several international conflicts, mostly in South America and during the 19th century, such as the Brazilian War of Independence (1822-25). Through the 20th century, however, this date has reduced in popularity and is no longer a public holiday, no longer even having an organized military parade. The Brazilian Army was created to defeat the Portuguese resistance but also to avoid a fragmentation of the new Brazilian Empire. |
