| About Independence Day |
| Burma was gained their independence from Britain on the 4th January 1948. But the country experimented with democracy until 1962. The British ruled Burma for 63 years, until shortly after World War II. It is still struggling to get rid of free from the shackles of the military clutches led by a tyrannical Junta. The people are now waging their "Second independence struggle" fighting against the ruling military government. Instead, until today, most people in Burma have been suffering from the military dictatorship oppression, unlawful acts, brutality and militarized slavery. After enjoying civil liberties under parliamentary democracy for 14 years the military took control of the country and suspending the constitution in 1962. Many citizens of Burma did not feel very much like celebrating there freedom. |
