About Water Festival |
The Water festival is observed on April 11th of each year. The festival is called Thingyan but has become more widely known as the Water Festival. It is similar to the Thai New Year celebrations known as Songkran that occur during the same period. Today, Burmese people celebrate it in a different way. The older people go to the monastery and worship to the Lord Buddha and the monks. In April the sun is so hot that the Water Festival players cannot play the whole day and they have to take a rest, mostly under the trees, in the afternoon. Myanmar is a land full of festivals and fun. The rulers of Myanmar claim to be devout Buddhists. |
