| Sir Seretse Khama Day is celebrated on July 1st. This is celebrated to the birthday of Sir Seretse Khama, he is born in July 1st 1921. He is the grandson of Khama III. He was the last colonial prime minister of Botswana and became the first president of a free Botswana. He played an important role as a Prime Minister. He is servicing as a prime minister for the period of 1965 to 1966. In 1962 Seretse founded the Bechuanaland Democratic Party. In 1965 centre of Bechuanaland government was moved from Mafikeng, in South Africa, to the newly established capital of Gaborone – and Seretse Khama was elected as Prime Minister. When the country achieved independence on 30 September 1966, Seretse became the first president of the Republic of Botswana. On 13 July 1980 Seretse Khama died in office of pancreatic cancer. |
