| Nunavut Day is celebrated on July 9th of each year. It commemorates passing of two Nunavut acts. The Nunavut Day Cultural and Academic Grants winners are also announced on this day. It is a public holiday in Nunavut and government offices are closed. Territorial Holiday to celebrate Canada's newest territory created on July 9, 1999. On April 1, 1999, the government and territory of Nunavut were formally established. Many events are arranged on Nunavut Day. Today they celebrated with Communal meals, including pancake breakfasts and barbecue, speeches by local leaders, traditional games and dances. |
