| Dragon Boat Festival is also known as Tuen Ng festival. It is observed on fifth day of fifth month of Chinese calendar. Dragon Boat Festival is a traditional holiday in China. It is a Chinese traditional festival. Dragon Festival is English name it’s called in Chinese language Tuen Ng Festival. Chinese known as dragon is God of the water world. Today, water remains central to the festival and each year teams compete in dramatic dragon boat races. Failing to find Chu Yuan, people hit drums and making loud noised hoping to scare the fish and won't touch Chu Yuan's body. People lived along the river also put cooked rice in the river as a sacrifice. But then they found that the fish got the rice so people wrapped the cooked rice in bamboo leaves. This evolves to present day's rice dumplings. Today, festival activities recall this legendary event. People eat rice-and-meat dumplings wrapped in bamboo leaves and many look forward to swimming or even simply dipping their hands in the water. The real highlight of the festival is fierce-looking dragon boats racing in a lively, vibrant spectacle. Part of the celebrations includes eating glutinous rice dumplings wrapped in lotus leaves. The festival of Tuen Ng centers on long dragon boats racing, which is the charm of the show. This historic holiday is national holiday in China. |
