About Lantern Festival
Lantern Festival is observed on 15th day of the 1st lunar month i.e February or March on the Gregorian calendar. It is also called as Yuan Xiao Festival or Shangyuan Festival. Lantern Festival may be regarded as the last day of Spring Festival. This festival is celebrates in many colorful ways, from fiery folk traditions to firework displays and laser shows. The tradition of appreciating lanterns on the Lantern Festival originates from the Eastern Han Dynasty, which has a bearing on the introduction of Buddhism into China at that time. The Lantern Festival, a traditional Chinese festival which has undergone a history of over 2,000 years. In modern times, the lantern festival is still held each year around the country.
