| The Winter Solstice Festival or Mid-Winter Festival is officially known as Dongzhi Festival. It is a traditional festival in China, it falls on December 22nd of every year i.e the middle of a month in lunar calendar. On this day gathering Chinese families are come together to celebrate the Mid-Winter Festival. Families in China use Winter Solstice to gather and store their harvest. The Mid-Winter Festival is also used to worship ancestors in the afterlife, as well heaven. Worldwide, interpretation of the event has varied from culture to culture, but most cultures have held recognition of rebirth, involving holidays, festivals, gatherings, rituals or other celebrations around that time. This is a very important holiday for the country, and is still celebrated in parts of China today. They also pray that they will have another good year of farming. On this day people perform folk performances to thank gods for bringing them rich harvests over the year and also pray for safety and prosperity in the coming year. Today closed from schools to offices and people are seen in celebration mood everywhere. Solstice Festival is a second most important festival of China. |
