| The Independence Day is celebrated on January 1st of every year in Cameroon. It is public holiday of Cameroon. The French Cameroon achieved independence in 1960 as the Republic of Cameroon. At the time of World War I, Cameroon was officially a German colony, however it was split amongst the French and the British as spoils of war following Germany’s. In 1961 two-thirds of Northern Cameroon opted to join Nigeria. And French Cameroon opted to join the Republic of Cameroon to form the Federal Republic of Cameroon. In 1900 it was invaded by both Britain and France, and was later divided between those two countries. Cameroon is racially diverse with over 225 individual groups. After independence the country local economy is motivated by foreign aid, but their have variety of agricultural ventures, oil, and timber production. The National Day Celebrations include parades involving public officials. Today they celebrates military base in located on the top of a hill overlooking the city. |
