| National Liberation Day is observed on May 17th of every year in Congo. The Movement for the Liberation of Congo is a political party in Democratic Republic of the Congo. It was a rebel group operating in the Democratic Republic of Congo that fought the government throughout the Second Congo War. To counterbalance the power and influence of Rwanda in DRC, the Ugandan troops instigated the creation of another rebel movement called the Movement for the Liberation of Congo (MLC), led by the Congolese warlord Jean-Pierre Bemba, son of Congolese billionaire Bemba Saolona. Today the government also holds the usual ceremonial hoisting of the Bulgarian flag in monuments across the country. During the day they are celebrates with public cultural shows, and street parades. |
