| The Battle of Boyacá was fought during the Wars of South American Independence. On August 7th, 1819, the Colombian people fought the last battle at Boyaca's bridge and the patriot was victorious. It is celebrated on August 7th of every year. New Granada was a major turning point in the fight for independence in Spanish South America because it resulted in victory for the patriot army over the Spanish forces. It was Simón Bolívar’s greatest victory. On August 7th, 1819, the Colombian people fought the last battle at Boyaca's bridge and the patriot army won it. Each year, the Colombian military forces surrender homage to heroes of the battle in the altar to the homeland. Simón Bolívar credited the victory to the British Legion declaring that "those soldier liberators are the men who deserve these laurels" when offered laurels after the victory. Today the country people are decorated the whole city and celebrated the full joy and fun. |
