| The Independence Day is celebrated on July 20th of every year. It is a special holiday of Colombia. Independence Day is the biggest event in Colombia. It is a national holiday. In 1819 Colombia won its Independence from Spain. On August 7th, 1819, the Colombian people fought the last battle at Boyaca's bridge and the patriot army won it. Christopher Columbus is credited with the discovery of Columbia. During the earlier times, the land of Columbia was under the Spanish rule since 1500. On July 20, 1810, the citizens of Bogotá formed the first representative council to withstand Spanish authority, and achieved full independence in 1810. Today starts with the National Anthem and ends at 7.30PM with fireworks. Independence Day is a national holiday of Colombia. Colombia is mainly an agricultural nation. |
