It symbolizes the anniversary of the liberation struggle of the Greek Cypriots against British rule in 1955. On this day secondary school pupils as well as students of higher education institutes attend church services. Greek Cypriots are the ethnic Greek population of Cyprus. They form the island's largest ethnic community comprising nearly 80 percent of the population. Greek Cypriot is mostly members of the Church of Cyprus, an autocephalous Greek Orthodox Church within the wider communion of Orthodox Christianity. |
