| About Dia de las Mercedes |
| The Die de las Mercedes is also called as Our Lady of Mercedes Day. It is observed on September 24th of each year. According to popular tradition, this virgin appeared in a battle between the conquistadores and the Indians and favored the Spanish powers, not the native peoples. The national festival is to honor the Virgen de Las Mercedes, patron saint of the nation and of Constanza. On this day in the early hours of the morning people wait in the nearby streets to open the doors of this beautiful temple dedicated to Marian devotion. |
