| The Duarte Day is birthday of Juan Pablo Duarte y Diez. His birthday is generally observed on January 26th. He is the national hero of Dominican Republic. He is the father of the Country. He is a 19th century visionary and liberal thinker along with Francisco del Rosario Sanchez and Ramon Matias Mella. In Dominican Republic, the people celebrate the birth of the father of the country or in Spanish Padre de la patria. He is widely considered the architect of the Dominican Republic and its independence from Haitian rule in 1844. The day is celebrated with a parade of different military groups and some school children. Military groups and children meet at Duarte Park and honor Juan Pablo Duarte with some speeches and music all around the state. |
