| About Independence Day |
| The Dominican Republic gained its independence from Haiti on February 27th 1844. The day is happened to be the last day before the beginning of Lent. So the Dominican Republic people celebrate their independence in February 27th of every year. On this day they celebrate it with the pequenos that would be participating in the march prepared for their big day and they wait for their turn as NPH volunteers painted the children’s faces with the colors of the Dominican flag. Each school parade in different uniforms, some performing dances, some playing instruments, and others chanting cheers for the crowd. The day is to honor the rich history and culture of the Dominican Republic and the many accomplishments of the Dominican people. |
