| Moroccans celebrate Oued Ed-Dahab Day on August 14th of every year. Moroccans celebrate this holiday to commemorate the occasion of the anniversary of the return to the homeland of the southern province of Oued Eddahab from Spanish occupation. Morocco recovered the southern province of Oued Eddahab which is formerly in the Western Sahara territory of Rio de Oro from Spanish occupation. On this day in 1979 the recovery of this province by authorities came to materialize the unity of the country and crown a long struggle for the perfection of Morocco's territorial integrity. At Riad palace in Rabat on this day on 1979 a delegation with 360 persons was held by the people of this region to oath allegiance and their attachment to the Alaouite throne before King Hassan II. Then after by the sovereign in his historical speech, he vowed to guarantee their defense and security and endeavor for their well-being. From then on afterward this day is marked as Oued Ed-Dahab Day in Morocco. It is a public holiday. |
