| About Covadonga |
| Covadonga is celebrated in Spain on 8th September every year. Covadonga is situated just to the west and north of the Picos de Europa mountain range in the heart of Asturias' walking and hiking country. Historically Covadonga is notable as the location of a major Spanish victory over the Islamic "Moors" and that battle is often considered to be the start of the "reconquista” of Spain, i.e. a 750 year battle to evict the Muslims from the whole of the Iberian Peninsula. Covadonga becomes visible long before you reach it as sits perched half way up a mountain. |
