| Hidar is celebrated on the month of November. It is the one of the most venerated of all religious figures in Ethiopia. On November 27 1879, the capital was founded by Emperor Menelik and Empress Taitu. This festival is attended by thousands of people from foreign countries and all over Ethiopia, making it one of the most blissful annual pilgrimages in country, the "Blessed city of the Ethiopians". The Hidar Zion festival celebrates the Church of St Mary. A feverish combination of poverty and devotion lend itself to this memorable day. |
