| About Victory of Adwa Day |
| As early as 1896, Ethiopia was the last free nation on continental Africa that was never colonized. The Victory of Adwa Day is observed on March 2nd of each year in Ethiopia. The Ethiopian army led by Emperor Menelik II decisively defeated the Italian army at the Battle of Adwa. The country remained free owing to a decisive defeat of Italian invaders at Adowa on March 1st 1896. Adwa is a town located in the northern part of Ethiopia, near the Ethiopian and Eritrean border.
