| About Summer Bank Holiday |
| There are totally two Summer Bank Holidays in UK. The first one occurs at first Monday in August and the second at Last Monday in August. The history of these holidays was traced back to 1930. Prior to 1834, the Bank of England observed about thirty-three saints' days and religious festivals as holidays. Then in 1834 the holidays were reduced to four. These four are 1 May, 1 November, Good Friday, and Christmas Day. Then after with the Bank Holidays Act 1871 introduced by John Lubbock a legislation was passed. Then after a century the Banking and Financial Dealings Act 1971 was introduced which regulates the bank holidays in UK till now. These bank holidays were same throughout the UK except in Scotland which has the Summer Bank holiday in first Monday of August. A bank holiday is a public holiday in the United Kingdom and the Republic of Ireland. |
