| About Independence Day |
| Ghana was the first black African country to gain independence on the 6th March 1957. In 1957, Ghana became the first sub-Saharan country to free itself from colonial rule, with founding father Kwame Nkrumah leading it to independence from Britain. The people of Ghana were under the rule of the British and finally with lots of struggle the country became free. Today most workers have been given the day off. Thousands of Ghanaians gathered round the streets to enjoy the Independence Day of the country. All sing the national anthem "God Bless Our Homeland Ghana", which was also adopted on Ghana's Independence Day. |
