| Guyana Republic Day is observed on February 23rd of every year. In 1970 Guyana is gained their independences from the United Kingdom. Today they will celebrate Mashramani also festival also. The word ‘Mashramani’ is derived from an Amerindian language that means ‘the celebration of a job well done’. This festival takes place with steelbands playing calypso music and costumed clad revelers. Guyanese Republic Day - includes a parade, music, games and cooking and is intended to commemorate the "Birth of the Republic". The proclamation also severed Guyana’s last significant constitutional tie to Britain. However, to this day, Guyana remains a member of the Commonwealth of Nations. |
