| The last Monday of October called as Lá Saoire i mí Dheireadh Fómhair in Irish is also called as Halloween Holiday and Lá Saoire Oíche Shamhna in Irish. The October Holiday weekend often falls in the same week as Halloween. Hence, it is sometimes known as the Halloween Holiday. It is a time of Cultural festivals. This holiday usually falls on the day after daylight savings time ends in Ireland. However this is not always true. The last Monday of October is a public holiday in the Republic of Ireland. This holiday was observed from 1977 according to the Holidays (Employees) Act, 1973 (Public Holiday) Regulations, 1977. On this weekend people of Ireland take a short break or longer fall vacation in Ireland or abroad. Banks, post offices and many other businesses and organizations are closed on the last Monday of October. However, some of the shops were open for very short time of the day. Many cultural and sporting events are held during this holiday weekend. The events include The Dublin marathon, Theater, arts and fashion festivals, Music performances by Irish musicians or inspired by Ireland's history, Celebrations of traditional and modern Irish food and drink, Halloween themed events. |
