An Independence Day is an annual celebration commemorating the anniversary of a nation’s assumption of independent statehood. Most countries honor their respective independence day as a national holiday and some countries or nations independence – date honors are contested. Jamaica got independence from the United kingdom on August 6, 1962 after political subjugation. Previously Jamaica was known as ‘Xaymaca’ means that ‘Land of Wood and Water’ or ‘Land of Springs’. Independence Day celebrations in Jamaica: participants dress up in ethnic costumes; music and dance are an integral part of the life of Jamaicans. Between 1000 and 4000BC, South Americans first settled in Jamaica island. The occupation of the island and full control took place to the Spain, when Christopher Columbus arrival in Jamaica in 1494. After Columbus death, the country is under struggled with slavery, disease or war. It was the first African slaves to Jamaica. After few decades, Spanish Town is making as the capital of Jamaica. After 100 years of struggle Jamaica got independence the largest city Kingston of Jamaica became the capital. |
