| Children’s Day is a Japanese national holiday, celebrated on May 5. It is the day celebrated to respect children’s personalities and to celebrate their happiness. It is a national holiday, and was designated a national holiday by the Japanese government in 1948. It was loacally called Tango no Sekku. This festival is also celebrated in China, Taiwan, Hong Kong and Macau as the Duanwu Festivalor Duen Ng Festival. It was generally for boys but was changed to include both genders. Sekku means a season’s festival. Tango no Sekku marks the beginning of summer or the rainy season. Tango no Sekku was known as Boys' Day also known as Feast of Banners while Girl’s Day was celebrated on March 3. In 1948, it was declared to celebrate the happiness of all the children and express gratitude toward mothers. Hence it was renamed Kodomo no Hi. So many of the traditional celebrations on Children’s Day cine from Boy’s Day. |
