| Coming of Age Day is a national holiday and immemorial in Japan. It is known as ‘Seijin no Hi’, is a Japan word. It is celebrated annually on the second Monday of January. This celebration held nationwide. It is used to celebrate usually on January 15 until 1999, established in 1948. It is a young person’s transition from childhood to adulthood. It is because of to congratulate and encourage all those who have reached the age of majority. In 2000, it was changed to the second Monday in January. Many Women celebrate this day by wearing furisode and zori sandals. Men wear traditional dress; now-a-days men wear formal western clothes such as suit and tie. Young women usually wear brightly colored, long-sleeve Kmonos. Well-dressed young people at shrines, temples, or just milling about town is emblematic of January. Today some societies says that the change is associated with the age of sexual maturity, others, it is associated with an age of religious responsibility. Twenty is the age considered as the beginning of adulthood. It is also the minimum legal age for voting, drinking, and smoking. But along with these freedoms come the responsibilities of adult society.At the ceremony, young people typically hear congratulatory speeches, make a pledge to be respectable members of society, and receive some sort of commemorative gift. After the ceremony, these young people visit temples and shrines or step out on the town with their friends. The coming-of-age ceremony has its origins in the genpuku. The holiday was seen as a symbol of Japan's rebirth after the war. |
