| About Independence Day |
| An Independence Day is an annual celebration commemorating the anniversary of a nation's assumption of independent statehood. Most countries honour their respective independence day as a national holiday. Kazakhstan declared its sovereignty as a republic within the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics in October 1990. Kazakhstan declared independence on December 16, 1991. It was the last of the Soviet republics to declare independence. Communist Party of Kazakhstan and was eventually elected President in 1991. Kazakhstan is a very young independent state. The Declaration of Independence was the first fundamental legislation of the new country. In Kazakhstan a two chamber Parliament was established, a court system created. Kazakhstan has made significant progress toward developing a market economy. The country has enjoyed significant economic growth since 2000, partly due to its large oil, gas, and mineral reserves. Since the independence, it has been seeking equally good relations with two large neighbors, Russia and China. Kazakhstan also enjoys strong, and rapidly developing, political and economic ties with Turkey. |
