The Pchum Ben is falls in the first half of September in the western calendar. On the 15th day of the waxing moon during the tenth month of the Khmer calendar. This is a time when the spirits of the dead ancestors walk the Earth. It is a Cambodian religious festival. In Cambodia the national holiday fell on the 28th - 30th of September in the Gregorian calendar. The Cambodian people who are Buddhists around the country are celebrating Ben Pchum Ben. Another important practice during the festival is that as early as 4am in the morning, people walk around the pagoda and throw rice balls around the fence of the pagoda.
