| Cambodia holds Royal Plowing ceremony to begin rice planting season. This officially marks the start of the rainy season in Cambodia and the start of the planting season. In this time the farmers to be ready for farming rice by starting to plough. Cambodian King Norodom Sihamoni watched the ceremony, a ritual agricultural festival held at the park in front of Phnom Penh's National Museum, near Royal Palace. Cambodians strongly believe that the ceremony reveals the prospects of the upcoming year's crops. In this festival, both men and women who can be seen wear brightly colored Khmer traditional costume. The ceremony also showcased a new generation of the royal family, with two of Sihanouk's grandchildren leading the oxen as they plowed a sacred furrow outside the Royal Palace. |
