| Lao Issara (Day of the Free Laos) is celebrated on August, 13th. The Lao Issara (“Free Laos”) was an anti-French, non-communist nationalist movement. It was formed in 1945 by Prince “Phetsarath”. It aimed to prevent the French from restoring their control over Laos. The authority of the Lao Issara provisional government was extremely limited outside Vientiane. The Franco-Laotian guerrillas had taken control of the main towns of Xiangkhoang Province. There are lots of problems to Lao Issara government, how to finance the government is the most serious problem and there were no funds to pay civil servants. The Franco-Laotian guerrillas were receiving reinforcements and supplies by air and road from French headquarters in Saigon. |
