| Pathet Lao’s Day celebrates on January, 6th every Year. Pathet Lao was a communist, nationalist political movement and organization in Laos. The Pathet Lao were always closely associated with Vietnamese communists. Pathet Lao established a political movement was called “Lao People’s Party” and later called as “Lao Peoples’ Revolutionary Party”, in 1950. During the civil war, it was effectively organized and equipped by the army of North Vietnam. The Pathet Lao was committed to the communist struggle against colonialism. By 1951 enough Pathet Lao troops had been recruited and trained to take part in Viet Minh military operations against French Union forces in Laos. In 1956 an official party, the Neo Lao Hak Sat (Lao Patriotic Front) was formed. In 1957, an agreement established between the Pathet Lao and royal forces, but in few years the coalition government collapsed and fighting resumed. In early 1970’s the Pathet Lao fought a civil war against the U.S.-backed Vientiane regime. In 1975 Pathet Lao forces consolidated their power throughout the country. The Vientiane government fell in May 1975, and Pathet Lao leaders formed a new government. |
