| Labor Day is also called as May Day or International Worker’s Day. It is celebrated on May 1st of every year in Lebanon. The Republic of Lebanon is a small, largely mountainous country in the Middle east, located the eastern edge of the Mediterranean Sea. Lebanon, the child labor is high at the age of 10 to 17 in the world. Labor Day has become internationalized and several countries hold multi-day celebrations including parades, shows and other patriotic and labor-oriented events. It refers to various labor celebrations conducted on May 1st that commemorates the fight for the eight hour day. It has become an international celebration of the social and economic achievements of the labor movement. On this day people organize different events and seminars to highlight the importance of the day. Labor Day was renamed to “State Holiday” In 1990 and it is a national holiday in Lebanon. In twenty-first century, many neopagans began reproduce the old traditions and celebrating May Day as a pagan religious festival again. The celebration of Labor Day has its origins in the Eight-hour day movement, which encourage eight hours for work, eight hours for recreation, and eight hours for rest. This day was a traditional summer holiday in many pre-Christian European pagan cultures. |
