| About Italian Evacuation Day |
| Evacuation Day refers to the date of evacuation of the British military from American cities in the American Revolutionary War. It also refers to the evacuation of French troops from the Middle East after World War II. After the discussions between Libya’s representatives and their Italian counterparts, the Italian government agreed to take back thousands of Italian settlers who had settled in Libya since the Italian invasion of Libya in October 7, 1911. The day is celebrated every year under the name Jalau'tolian. In 1999, Italy apologized for the colonization of Libya and the next year agreed to pay $260 million in compensation. |
