| About Maha Sivarathri Day |
| Shivaratri is celebrated on the 6th night of the dark Phalgun (Feb or March) every year. The many rituals associated with this festival include fasting, night long vigil at temples, making of offerings to Shiva, the lighting of lamps and singing hymns in praise of Lord Shiva. This festival observed in honour of Lord Shiva, marks the day we are believed to have married Parvati and the night when he performed the dance of primordial creation and preservation. Mahashivaratri marks the night when Lord Shiva performed the 'Tandava'. It is also believed that on this day Lord Shiva was married to Parvati Ma. On this day Shiva devotees observe fast and offer fruits, flowers and bel leaves on Shiva Linga. |
