| Mindaugas' Coronation Day is celebrated On July, 6th every Year. Mindaugas was the first known Grand Duke of Lithuania and the only King of Lithuania. In 1236 he is the leader of all the Lithuanians. During the course of internal power struggles, he was baptized as a Roman Catholic. During the 1240s, Mindaugas strengthened and established his power in various Baltic and Slavic lands. In 1249, an internal war erupted as Mindaugas sought to seize his nephews' and Vykintas' lands. Mindaugas agreed to receive baptism and relinquish control over some lands in western Lithuania. He was the founder of Lithuanian state. On July 6, 1253, is an official national holiday in Lithuania. |
