About National Day
Luxembourg is a small landlocked country in Western Europe. The National Day is a designated date on which celebrations mark the nationhood of a nation or non-sovereign country. This nationhood can be symbolized by the date of independence, of becoming republic or a significant date for a patron saint or a ruler. The National Day will often be a national holiday. Some countries have more than one National Day like Pakistan. Most of the countries have a fixed date and some have movable dates like Jamaica. Luxembourg became an independent state in 1963. Luxembourg joined NATO in 1949. Luxembourg's National Day party is held the night before 22nd June. It is the birthday of Grand Duke. A traditional torchlight parade takes place after sunset in Luxembourg City's centre. There's music too, with rock, pop, and other bands performing. There are plenty of opportunities to spend spare change on sausages, beers, soft drinks, neon-light necklaces and other party fare. Luxembourg is a parliamentary representative democracy with a constitutional monarch; it is ruled by a Grand Duke.
