On August 3, 1492 Columbus set sail with his three ships on voyage to cross the Atlantic and on October 12 1492, they landed. After his unsuccessful career as Governor, he returned back to Spain where he died. Columbus Day is one of the 10 US legal federal holidays from 1937.
