| About Columbus Day |
| Columbus Day is a holiday which remembers the discovery of America in 1492, by navigator Christopher Columbus. This holiday is found both in US and Mexico. It is called as Dia de la Raza. On August 3, 1492 Columbus set sail with his three ships on voyage to cross the Atlantic and on October 12 1492, they landed. After his unsuccessful career as Governor, he returned back to Spain where he died. Columbus Day is one of the 10 US legal federal holidays from 1937. In 1971, President Richard Nixon has moved the holiday to the second Monday in October. |
