| Jose Morelos y Pavyn was a Mexican parish priest who joined the forces seeking to liberate Mexico from Spanish rule. He was born on Sep 30th, 1765 in Valladolid. At the age of 33, he is appointed as a Roman Catholic priest. He joined the rebellion against Spain called by Miguel Hidalgo in 1810. He is the leader of the revolution after Hidalgo was accepted. He is the member of the lower classes in the Spanish colonial social system. He is a national hero of Mexico. In September 1813 Morelos - the "Servant of the Nation," called the Congress of Chilpancingo. |
