| About Albanian Alphabet Day |
| The modern Albanian alphabet is based on the Latin alphabet. It consist 36 letters. Alphabet of the Caucasian Albanians is one of the Caucasian Peoples modern Albanian alphabets. This alphabet was invented by Georgian scholar, professor Ilia Abuladze, which is on the basis of the Georgian Asomtavruli. This alphabet was discovered in 1935. An Albanian alphabet was made by Naum Veqilharxhi in 1824. He formed a 33-letter alphabet from Latin alphabets and called it Evetor. This Alphabet was mainly used in southern Albania. Different literary societies created and developed different alphabets namely Istanbul created by Sami Frasheri based on the Latin script with Greek characters, and Another one was formed which is similar to the Istanbul called Bashkimi, was developed by the Albanian literary society Bashkimi and the Agimi is another version developed by the society Agimi. In November 1908 an alphabet congress was established. The congress was unable to make a clear solution of using both Istanbul and a new Latin alphabet. In 1911, Young Turks agreed to use a revised Bashkimi alphabet that is still used today. |
