| About Saint Clement of Ohrid Day |
| Saint Clement of Ohrid was a medieval Bulgarian who was scholar and writer. He is the first Bulgarian archbishop of Bulgaria. Clement was born in southwestern part of the Bulgarian Empire; it is under the region of Kutmichevitsa. In present days it is called as Macedonia. Clement participated in the mission of Cyril and Methodius to Moravia. After Methodius death in 885, Clement fought against the German clergy in Moravia. About 886 he reached to Bulgaria. To teach Theology in Slavonic language, established two schools (academies) in the capital, Pliska and kutmichevista. Saint Clement of Ohrid was one of the most prolific and important writers in Old Bulgarian. The first modern Bulgarian University Sofia University was founded in 1888. |
