| African Liberation Day on May 25 is an annual holiday in various countries in Africa, coinciding with African Union's Africa Day. Mali is the Republic of Mali, is a landlocked nation in Western Africa. Mali is the seventh largest country in Africa. Its capital is Bamako. It is considered to be one of the poorest nations in the world. Mali gained independence in 1959. In 1991, new constitution establishes Mali as a democratic, multi-party state. On April 15, 1958, the political activists gathered at the first Conference of Independent African States. It was attended by representatives of the governments of National Liberation Front and Union of the Peoples of Cameroon. The Conference called for the founding of African Freedom Day. Africa Freedom Day was changed from April 15 to May 25 and Africa Freedom Day was declared African Liberation Day (ALD). |
