| The Dongzhi Festival or Winter Solstice Festival is one of the important festival of Malaysia, is celebrated when sunshine is weakest and daylight shortest i.e. first day of the Dongzhi solar term. “Dong Zhi” means “arrival of winter”. The Dongzhi Festival is also a time for the family to get together. Dongzhi or Toji is the 22nd solar term, marks the winter solstice. According to the Gregorian calendar, it begins around December 21st and ends around January 5th. Dongzhi was originally celebrated as an end-of-harvest festival. The festival began as a farmer's festival to celebrate year-end harvest. |
